כרמלה, אשתו של פקיד השומה, החוששת מגילויים מביכים עליה ועל בני משפחתה, מעדיפה שהחקירה תתנהל בידי חוקר פרטי.
היא אינה מוכנה לשתף את המשטרה במידע שברשותה, מה גם שבראש צוות החקירה המשטרתי (צח"מ) עומד לא אחר מאשר קצין משטרה בעל אופי מפוקפק ועבר פלילי.
Murder of the Tax Collector
The murder of the tax collector opens a true Pandora's box and releases many demons that should have remained buried in the past. Opening the box leads to yet another murder.
At the center of the plot is the Abulafia family, a Jewish family, whose hidden ties that bind their sons are unravelled from murder to murder.
The fastmoving sequence of events, alongside the progress of the complicated investigation, takes the reader from one assumption to another with a tense anticipation of discovering the motives for the murders and revealing the connection between them.
Carmela, the wife of the tax collector, is afraid of embarrassing revelations about her and family members being revealed and prefers that the investigation be conducted by a private investigator.
